Joe V**** REALLY Needs a Job

For those who don't know my story, it goes a little something like this...

I grew up in a suburb of Detroit and I was quite the little nerd in my younger years. I studied hard, earned good grades, and attended the University of Michigan. While attending Michigan and upon graduation, I worked at Jet's Pizza. I gained some valuable management experience, but there was something unsettling about utilizing my UM degree in the pizza business. After spending two (post-grad) years slinging dough, I decided that law school was the route for me. It was off to New York City and Brooklyn Law School. Sure, law school had its ups and downs, but I finished with almost a 3.2 while working most semesters. However, I was unaware of the difficulty of landing a permanent job from a good law school with less than great grades. I entered the temporary employment market. Each time I received a new assignment, I busted my ass with the idea that it could lead to permanent employment. Well, being that I was working mainly for large financial institutions, the prospect of permanent employment was nil in the midst of the economic downturn. Even the temporary market dried up. So...with ridiculous amounts of debt, no savings, and no job, it was back to square one.

When you are nearing 30 years old, an attorney, and living in your parents house, it can easily lead to multiple utterances of, "What the f*** just happened?" You know how people always ask you where you picture yourself in 10 years? Well, let me tell you...10 years ago, this was nowhere close to my vision. It is times like these that present two options: 1) Succumb and throw in the towel; or 2) Rise above. I can't tell you how many times I've wanted to choose option 1, but I am not a quitter. I never thought I would resort to posting my resume on Facebook, but like they always say, "It's not what you know..." So friends and strangers...if you can pass my info on, it would be appreciated.

I am open to any quality opportunity with growth potential. Unfortunately, I am not in a position to work in a commissions-based industry at this time, so anyone recruiting financial advisors, I appreciate your time, but I cannot consider your opportunity.

I am willing to relocate pretty much anywhere immediately.

Thanks for your time and please feel free to check out my resume in the Discussion Board below.

Joe

First of all, I really feel sorry for Joe. If I could, I would have given him a job, although I have a “lawyer” growing in my own family.

For years, software engineers and computer programmers complained that their career ends at 35 because companies want to hire less experienced but cheaper workers. This was all well-known, and people, like Joe, don’t go into engineering. He went to law school. Because, “if you become a lawyer, you will always find a job”, and “everything is gone, but financial industry will always have jobs”, like in “housing prices never go down” and “if we outsource our jobs and develop middle class in India, they will be buying our products and we all are going to get rich”.

But now we have lawyers, who can't find job at 30, no savings, no income, only student loans that need to be paid back.

Now Joe, like many other people, asks, "What the f*** just happened?"

Well, Joe. I hope this website will provide some answers…. and solutions.
